New Testament Giving…for New Testament Believers

2 Corinthians 9:6-10 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

Wow, before I go any further, notice the italicized portion I believe this is the key to New Testament Giving (NTG), we give as we purpose in our hearts.
If it is not in our heart to give, then we shouldn’t give at that time otherwise we ARE doing it grudgingly and out of necessity.

Christ has called us to liberty, why would anyone want to be bound to a form or pattern of giving.
When we give freely from our hearts this is a good work, and God will make sure we always have a supply to continue in good works. More on this later

Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

This is just tapping the NTG principle, we should labor so we are able to give; give what ? Give to needs.
We have been called to respond to the NEEDS of others.
I believe only through an ongoing daily relationship with God, are we able to discern the needs of others.
We don’t want to be their provider, that’s God’s job, but we do want to be obedient to the Spirit’s leading.
We must see with spiritual eyes, not natural.

Often times we can see suffering or financial hardships and be moved with compassion to help, but in this we often forget God and just forge ahead “by faith”
Let me tell you (let the stoning begin) if we just forge ahead and forget God, simply put we can forget faith.

We are not moving in faith we are moving in arrogance, we by our actions are telling God “I know what’s going on I can deal with this I can fix it”
What if God is doing it? What if God in his mercy has brought this person to a place of hardship that they need to go through, a place where they will truly learn to trust God? Then we come along and put a bandaid on it, it may feel better for a little while but it will not heal until God is through doing what he purposed to do.
Could we actually prolong the process by trying to fix it ourselves

I have found by seeking God before reacting to what I see physically very often he will confirm our thoughts and we can truly see Him responding through us. But there have been times when I have sought God and he has put up the “Hands off” sign and again I see God responding without us.
It is because of this that I encourage everyone to seek God before moving …

The greater purpose for NTG is to bring equality to the body.
First let me define body, this is the true church, all believers everywhere, but on a more personal level it is those you are in relationship with, your fellowship family, those you see and can affect daily those God has fitly joined you together with.

Body giving is so important because as we give to the necessities (needs) of the saints, we build the body and bring all of us closer to life.

My brother in faith shares this definition of life

The state of being in this realm where we are no longer hindered by time, resources or circumstance.
To walk in life we break the bondage of this present world even as the following verses demonstrate.

Acts 2:44-45 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Acts 4:32-35 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
I have to end with a word of caution….and assurance

1 John 3:17-19 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

God bless all who read this

And please share your light (respond)

Love In Christ
